It's what used to be known as the Peach Bowl before all the academic whores known as the NCAA schools sold out naming rights for their games to big corporations.
He's named after the LSU student, Mike Chambers who organized and spearheaded the effort to obtain a live on-campus Tiger Mascot in 1936. In gratitude, the student body overwhelmingly voted to name it Mike. All the succeeding Tigers have borne that Lofty Name.
In one of our Fight Songs..."Hey Fighting Tigers !" one of the lyrics says, "... make Mike the Tiger stand right up and Roar !!!"
In the realm of collegiate sport few have equalled, NONE have surpassed, the glorious pageantry that is LSU Football. Mike the Tiger is the Heart and Soul of that Pageantry.
