Are you Popular? Do People Like You?

I stumbled across this when I was trying to look up someone's profile. I found it VERY intriguing. You plug in your AIM name and someone elses to see who is more socially connected. It goes by how many people have buddylisted you and how many have subsequently buddy listed those individuals. That's basically it.

I had fun plugging in people I can't stand and finding sheer JOY in the fact that nobody liked them either! You want to battle me baby? Simply plug in "Brettcajun" and your AIM name on the AIM FIGHT PAGE. That's our score. Now, plug in people you can't stand! See... it's not YOU that's the problem! It's HER!

Why Fight?
What can fighting really prove? Using a complicated algorithm, AIMĀ® Fight crawls through the depths of the Internet to answer the all-important question that plagues us all: How popular am I right this second?

TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!

Or it means, some people are more selective on who they consider their "buddy".

This list goes by who has added you as a buddy and who has added THEM as a buddy.

It doesn't compute how many buddies you have on your buddy list.

So, going by what you are saying... people who have higher scores are those who have people who are not picky about adding them as a buddy. And those people have others that aren't picky about having them as a buddy either.

Can we infer anything from people being more selective in choosing us? I don't know. I just know it was an interesting concept which probably doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing you become the Prom Queen of AIM, Brett. As for me, I'm just happy with the notches on my bedpost; counting all my conquests (yeah I wish)!

Moby: I know I can do better. I thought the game was silly when I first ran across it. I was like "THIS IS SOOOO STUPID!" But then I started plugging in people and I was slightly amused.

But you are right. Sooooo high school. And God knows gay men do not act like little teenage prom queens sometimes! ;)

If I had an AIM account, I would totally do this... and probably enjoy every minute of it... for about 30 minutes. Why do we have this desire to be better than someone else... or better said, why do we have such a desire to be liked by more people? I know I have that desire in full measure. Blog about that, Brett. I am curious to read your thoughts on that.
