ROAD RAGE

I shouldn't be at work this morning. Every fiber in my being is shaking from road rage. I had a Dr. appointment at 9am in Baton Rouge. Since Baton Rouge is now Louisiana's largest and most vibrant city, morning and afternoon commutes are TOUGH. Until the local Parish officials agree on a fucking loop around the city, it is going to continue to be gridlocked.

I left an hour and a half BEFORE my Dr. appointment. That is leaving a full hour extra to account for morning traffic. Not on this day. In my car I was punching my horn. A traffic light at a major thoroughfare was blinking yellow and red lights making it a four way stop. NOOOO!!!!! 45 minutes to go one mile. I was fit to be tied. An overturned truck further ensnared traffic. I was going ballistic. This can't be happening!!!

So, I missed my Dr.'s appointment. I am pissed. I am Catholic. Why is God punishing me? What have I done? Why has my Kharma suddenly turned bad?

Today, I am NOT being nice to any of my co-workers. I should just call it a day and take the rest of the day off. I feel like I am owed the two hours that was robbed from me for taking off work to go to a stupid Dr. appointment that had to be rescheduled. GRRR...

Welcome to my life in California bud! Try living that everyday for the past 8-12 years. But don't take it out on your employees. Remember they live it from time to time too.

Take the afternoon off

My 10 minute commute this morning took over 45 minutes... but I turned up the radio and made a fool of myself in complete drag mode sitting in traffic thanks to a huge car accident...

Welcome to the big city there boyfriend! Traffic is part of my life each and every day...maybe you should change to a doctor closer to home. With the size of slab, being hung like a horse and all, maybe you could get a vet to take care of ya?
Love ya babe

Then when you come to Orlando to visit, we will hire a driver for you - a 10 minute commute can turn into an hour and a half at the drop of a hat...

There are these really neat things called CD's - they have music on them... you can sing along... my suggestion is "Boogie Shoes"...

Just go the free clinic Brett, they have the same meds to clear up that rash! LOL

I totally hear you about road rage. Oh by the way, if they are just now planning that "Loop" you might as well forget it, because I moved here 10 years ago, and they are still not done with ours! Almost but not quite...

You don't need a beltway, you need a mass transit system. Trolleys or subway, but something that moves a lot of people rapidly. A beltway will just encourage more people to drive longer distances to work.

Lately it seems like that if you put anyone (from Baton Rouge area)
behind the wheel of an auto, pickup truck, or suv.....they become total assholes if it's rush hour.

What? You couldn't whip slab out and entertain yourself? *eg*

I have absolutely no patience for commuting which is why I live very close to work and I drive a motorcyle.

Hope your evening goes better. It's almost the weekend.

I only drive during non-rush hour. Sometimes for variety I take surface streets. Ah, it's nice to be retired.

Coupla points, Brett--

First, traffic studies show that very little of the traffic on the interstates in BR, especially on I-10 after the split, is "through" traffic. Instead, it's mostly local traffic because there are very few local roads that can handle any sort of volume. So the loop, if and when it comes, won't really help much.

Second, contrary to what Mike noted, mass transit isn't really feasible for Baton Rouge because of its basic sprawling nature. DC, where he lives, has a dense, real city at the core, where it's possible to move lots of people from distant suburbs via mass transit into an efficient gridded system. Baton Rouge, as you know, is nothing BUT suburbs, pressing right up against the tiny once-was downtown, with nothing but two-lane roads (for the most part) leading out from there. With none of the subdivisions along those roads linked internally, every bit of traffic has to get out onto the "main" roads, so one accident snarls everything for miles.

The only thing that will help Baton Rouge traffic, unfortunately, is a nuclear bomb, because you'd have to totally rebuild the city in order to make any rational traffic system here.

Amateur. ;) We deal with horrible traffic on a daily basis. After years of living here, I hardly ever even get mad anymore. If I did, I'd have a heart attack by now. Sorry you had a poopy morning. HOpe it gets better.

Sounds like your Kharma ran over your dogma. Sorry, Brett. Sounds terrible and icky and all of that. Not worth it, my friend. Let it go!

I feel your pain. I deal with the same outrageous Baton Rouge traffic every freaking day of my life. I swear, this city has GOT to have the most traffic lights (per capita) of any city in the United States. And probably 70% of them don't even need to exist! I travel from Denham Springs to LSU & back again every work day. It's a nightmare, and I don't even make my commute during the true rush hours. (I don't even try to use the interstate; I just pretend it's not there.)
