Mac Book or Vista?

My computer died an untimely death. It was less than a year old, but cannot be resuscitated. Instead of spending money to try to repair it, I am opting to just buy a new one. So, now I have a quandary. Do I get a PC with the upcoming new Microsoft Vista OS or do I join the Darin/Adam/Joe Geek Club and get a Mac Book? Hmmm... decisions... decisions.

Before I make this decision, I have to look at what I really do on my PC at home. I mostly do time wasting things like chatting online to build and maintain my social network. A guy needs friends doesn't he? Or there is the feeding of my ego through all those various sites where people either sign your guest book, leave a comment, or tell me how much my profile or pics made them feel inside.

My PC also allows me to post on my blog and grow my faux celebrity much to the chagrin of my local friends. That's always fun to get a rise out of your local friends. Hey, at least I am capable of expressing myself in written form! I am one of the few Americans who went through a public education and can write well enough.

Let's see... what else do I do with a computer? I often post lots of gratuitous pictures of myself to get those ego boosting comments. What good does that do me? When is that ever going to lure me a future suitable husband? Where is he goddammit?!

So tell me... should I get a Mac Book, a Microsoft Vista PC or a LIFE?

Which ever you choose, make sure you get the one with Core 2 Duo chip and paid extra for additional RAM if you can afford it. It will paid off in the long run.

If you are not planning to take your computer anywhere I would like to suggest that you buy a desktop instead. It will be cheaper and a lot more powerful than notebook with the same price.

Also considered how big the screen you wants to use as well as your physical aspect ie. the size of your hands and fingers and whether u have to bow your head slightly to see the screen etc. etc.

Again, if the notebook will always sit in your room, better off buy a pimp out desktop

Ok, I use a PC at work and my Macs at home. Did I mention that the bf and I are both Sys Admins at our respective jobs and we both go home to play on our Mac laptops. We also have a Mac tower too! If you get a mac Mini, you can get a nice sized flat panel to go with it.

But I agree with buying as much RAM and HD size as you can afford, regardless of which platform you buy.

You have to consider who can support which platform you buy. The PC will probably afford you more options, as it's the more popular. While the MAC is gaining it's still a smaller option when it comes to support.

my 2 cents

I say MacBook!

I have a Dell and it does well enough (no real complaints), but I would have picked up a Mac if I had had enough money for the model I want.

Well handsome! Get a life first and foremost. LMAO. I'm so bad, I know.

for what you do Brett, I'd go for the MacBook. I have the PowerBook, the generation just prior to MacBook, and I honesly have no complaints. I just need a Windows-based program for my CAD. If you can buck up just a little, get a MacBook with the Dual Core processor. The Macs are the best for picture filing and editing, for video editing, etc. That's what yu do most of besides written blog entries.

Be a man, Build your own computer, use an empty beer keg for the case, fill it with as much RAM as you can fit, with a hard drive that is bigger than anyone elses. Even better two parallel drives that are both bigger than anyone elses, with the fastest graphics accelerator you can find. Then post about how you can over-clock it, and you have to wear ear protection on account of the noise from extra fans you had to install to keep everything cool. Oh and its gotta have a name like "The Beast", or "Tallulah"

It boils down to two choices.

Compatability and Cost

Windows XP/Vista is by far the most widely used operating system on the planet. This is the primary reason I use XP.

A MAC will cost you some serious dough. If you go w/Mac get one w/boot camp and windows installed on a dual partition drive. That way you can have the best of both worlds and decide for yourself which one works for you.

Get the MacBook Pro. I got mine when it came out in February and it goes everywhere with me. Super fast, great screen resolution, great with graphics, really intuitive.

Love your blog - read it daily.

Well I think you know my opinion. I don't know anyone who has regretted a switch. But you probably don't need to invest in the Macbook Pro. I would just max out a Macbook.
