The TRUTH about America's Democracy

Psst... let me tell you a dirty secret that should be clearly in front of your own eyes. The United States is not a bastion of DEMOCRACY. We are a nation of people controlled by corporations. When we Americans "spread our democracy", it is really our corporations conquering your country and subjecting your citizens to lifelong enslavement. Your utility bills, fuel costs, credit card debt, mortgage payment/rents, and healthcare costs will be so astronomical that your ass will effectively be OWNED by our corporations. Our souls have been sold to the devil of corporate greed. Oil companies, defense contractors, gignormous banking institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry are reaping so much wealth as the rest of the human race suffers under the banner of "Democracy".

So then are you advocating the philosophy of: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need?"

Hmmm....

Perhaps the big oil companies would have less hold over people if they didn't drive SUV's around for one person (hint hint) and take gas-guzzling stretch limos for short drives from the airport to the hotel when on vacation. We like to think our energy costs are high, but apparently they aren't high enough (yet) to motivate much of a change in our behavior.

Credit card debt is optional. Most people who have excessive debt could (but choose not to) live within their means, as most people with excessive debt are the middle-class folks who have to have the latest video iPod, plasma TV, three-digit bar tabs every weekend, eating out three or four times a week, and so forth. It's fine to want (and have) "things", but when a person has to go into debt for them, obviously something's out of whack.

Likewise, although this is more common for breeders than us, most people with huge mortgages have far more house than they need, even if it's not as much as they want. Every child with his or her own bedroom, plus a formal living room (unused), dining room (unused), den, office... no wonder mortgages are through the roof (another hint: mortgage interest rates have been extremely low for years, meaning most of the increase in payment size is due to people borrowing more money for more house, not due to banks raping us with high interest rates).

It's all well and good to bitch about "big bidness" running everything, but what, precisely, would you change? And how?
