If I were Israel... (HOT TOPIC!)

I want to go on record stating that I fully support Israel's offensive in Lebanon. I DO feel sorry for the innocent Lebanese, who have to deal with the misdeeds of Hezbollah. If I was in charge of the Israeli response, I would go further than Israel has. I would order the return of the soldiers and a total cease to terrorist tactics by Hezbollah. If this wasn't stopped in 24 hours, I would threaten to rain thousands of cruise missiles down on Southern Lebanon and Syria. If that didn't stop the opposition, I would threaten to use NUKES on Damascus (Syria's capital and largest city) and Beruit. It's time to flex muscles and let the Arab world know that any provocation will be met with deadly force that will put their communities in jeopardy.

Now, this is why I am not the leader of Israel. I would be far more aggressive in my response to Islamic terror. The Muslim world must surely know by now that there are very negative consequences to their actions. Wiping Israel off the map is NOT going to happen. What MAY happen is that the Arab world will be wiped off the map. Now, either get along with your neighbors, or jeopardize your world with extermination. You are not dealing with all that hand wringing from those EU bureaucratic pussies. When Israel or the U.S. responds... it acts decisively. Israel is cracking it's knuckles and ready to punch you hard. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. It's your call Arab world.

This just in... Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said any Israeli attack against Syria would be an aggression on the whole Islamic world and warned of a harsh reaction, the official Iranian news agency reported Friday. I say "FUCK IRAN". They just want to distract world attention away from their nuclear ambitions. We should send cruise missiles into their terrorist supporting country as well. They are all together in this anyway. Everybody knows Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran are all CIRCLE JERK BUDDIES. Sorry I am venting this morning. I just feel like calling a spade a spade today.

we wouldn't even need to worry about any of this if we'd become less dependent on forgein oil... brazil just did that this year and it only took them 20 yrs to do it... it is possible... does that mean i would have to give up my SUV? no, it could run on corn or sugarcane... now, that's something a louisiana boy could get behind...dbv

I love your ideas for how they should be handling it.

I am very worried about how badly this is going to escalate though.

from another jewish reader (me)... I say... RIGHT ON. I can't agree more.

Whether you're a jew or not, this is about WAAAY more than just judaism and oil. DBV's views are remarkably short-sighted if he thinks that the world will go on just fine if the Ismalic fundamentalists wipe out Israel (which isn't going to happen anyway) and we don't give a shit because we're not buying their oil.

Trust me... we'll give a shit when they build an ICBM Nuke and send it our way. In the islamic fundamentalist's eyes... the world is not "ok" until ALL the "infadels" are deleted.... the US is considered just as big an "infadel" as Israel.... Israel's just a closer target.

Israel has easily the most well-trained and equipped armies in the world.... and it's not because we've helped them so much... it's because they're just THAT GOOD.... they're in fact - way better at fighting than we are. They will win, but it does concern me just how many will die before it's over.

Pretty scary shit all the same... but I'm glad they're not listening to the pussy-footing bullshit of "oh no, you shouldn't be so meeean to those poor innocent little islamic terrorist groups".

BULLSHIT.... put one of those guys in a room with a Jew and he'll be the first to go straight for the kill.

Brett, there are many opinions and points of view out there from both sides. I see them both. Sometimes I see the side of the Arabic nations around Israel. It just would be nice if the world in general could learn to take to seconds to listen and talk. Somehow we all need to coexist. We aren't going away. Perhaps it's 'optimistic' portion of me coming out here!

Ask yourself, What would Tony Soprano do?

CRUSH the opposition in the most brutal manner possible. This is war! They have an option of seeing the blood of their nation slowly seep into the battlefield over a period of years or they can wipe out all thoughts in the enemy's mind that they can compete on the battlefield.

In response to Jimmi, giving up the SUV is definitely not the answer. The government today has the ability to force auto makers here in the US to see to it that every model car made would get 40+ miles per gallon. That is something we should be focusing on and not getting rid of the SUV's.

(Simpsons quote-- too obscure?)

Yeah, it's really easy for us to sit in our cushy little armchairs and wave our little flags and root for more bombing when it's not our homes, families and children who are being targeted. Killing civilians in retaliation for the misdeeds of a few militant extremists isn't just bad policy, it's fucking evil. I've said it before (recently) and I'll say it again-- bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity. Shame on all of you for cheering on this senseless war like it was a football game.

Just an observation: I too support Israel defending itself but Americans need to remember this when they pay $4.00+/gallon for gas. The price hasen't "hit a nerve" in the US yet because most people are CHARGING it. Just wait until those huge bills come due.
With oil companies use the "any excuse will do" to raise prices Americans are going to be forced to make a choice: ideology or their pocket-book.

Absolutely agree with you. Israel is not stupid and they are not overreacting as many people say they are. I am not a zionist by any means but Israel needs to express to its neighbors that they will not be fucked with and that is what they are doing. Any action less than what they did would have conveyed weakness.

The Gock nailed it top dead center (another automobile reference for those of you old enough to remember what a timing-chain was...)

Gock was absolutely correct when he said the Islamic world won't be OK until all the infidels are dead...and we're on that list. We may be a larger target, and further away than Israel, but we're a target just the same. The infidels (terrorists, as I prefer to call them) are already living here. The gov't just disclosed a plot to blow up the slurry wall around Ground Zero in NYC. They won't stop until we're all dead.

Gock, I'd take it one step further, too.

When we find those little terrorist cells, let's take them to Ground Zero and let the families of the murdered innocent 9-11 victims have their way with them...Then let's bring in the families of the NYPD & FDNY.

We could teach the "fundamentalists" what "Justice" is all about.

By the way...I'm not Jewish. I'm an American. I lost friends on 9-11. I miss them every single day, and I'll honor their Memory every chance I get.

The argument that ALL Muslims want us dead is like saying ALL Christians want to stone all the queers, feminists, etc. There is a very vocal minority of troublemakers out there. Watching the news this morning made me realize how little I understand of the Middle East. And I'm a news junkie. So I spent a lot of time yesterday reading about what's going on. As I said, even for a news junkie like myself the Middle East makes little sense. Later in the evening I watched Science of the Bible on Discovery, and the following show was on the Book of Revelation. I'm more convinced than ever that this is such a long festering hatred between all these groups that there is not much to be done. There was one Israeli who is ready to destroy the Temple Mount (Muslim Temple in Jerusalem) although he knows it will bring about WWIII. Seems like religious extremists exist on all sides.

Joe and Dave,

Both of you should note my careful use of the words "Islamic Extremists" and not Musilums. They are both completely different groups and should not be categorized together. Joe - for you to modify this to "musilums" in your response to me highlights to me clearly the fact that you are a long distance from understanding the true nature of what's going on over there. Also for you to lump together the actions in Gaza with the actions in Lebanon regarding Hezbollah and Hammas further illustrates that willful ignorance.

I would invite you both to live a few years in Tel Aviv.

These are not innocent people and the only way to "root them out" is to get those around them who would otherwise ignore them, fear them, or turn their head the other way (the civilian peaceful musilums that may be leftover) to get angry enough to kick them out. The UN has been asking Lebanon for YEARS now to boot out the Islamic Extremist group Hezbollah (sp?) that rules the southern 1/3 of their nation... sanctions, meetings, begging, etc... none if it has worked... Instead they're getting more powerful every day! It's time to act.

or will you argue now that the evil US rules the UN too? I don't care for our current President, but I don't think our entire country is "all in it" for this crazy universal conspiracy plot theory.

Wow... conspiracy theories...

I'll disagree. The Lebanese government is weak. They were making progress is reducing the influence of Hezbollah and Syria. Bombing Beirut fucks the secular Lebanese government.

Killing innocent Lebanese citizens (including seven Canadians) is wrong. Residents of the North America, with a few spectacular incidents, never had to worry about neighboring countries arbitarily bombing us to punish a non-governmental militia group.

Israel should have taken the high road instead of dropping bombs and killing all those Lebanese civilians who had nothing (nothing!) to do with the situation.

July 17, 2006
Blogger Dave said...

Israel! FUCK YEAH!

Do you really believe that bombing Lebanese women and children will turn them into crusaders against Hezbollah? "Gosh, thanks for destroying my home, Jews! I totally see your point now!"

Could you really look someone in the eye who has lost their family to a random cruise missile and say, "Hey, sorry, but you had your chance to get the terrorists out of your country sooner, kid. Tough break, Grandma." It seems more likely to me that this will turn even more formerly peaceful citizens against Israel (and, by extension, the U.S.), fanning the flames even further and perpetuating this endless cycle of violence.

I am absolutely shocked to see so much of this chest-beating "us-versus-them" attitude here. People are dying in Lebanon, and they are not the people who are responsible for the attacks on Israel. All this swaggering "bring it on" bullshit from a group of people who have never had to live with war or real suffering in their lives is frankly pretty sickening to me.

Enjoy your war, everyone, and when that gets boring go back to watching the "Project Runway" marathon on Bravo. And sleep well!

July 17, 2006
Blogger BRETTCAJUN said...

Dave.. I don't watch "Project Runway". I think the show is TOO GAY for me. Now, give me a football game... and I am glued to the set!

I think the world has always been a violent place. Remember the Crusades? Remember the various Kings and Queens having their heads chopped off in England and France? Oh... at that person known as Lenin was really a nasty individual back in the day in Russia. And how about Hitler? How many millions died because of him?

My point is... pacifism simply does NOT work in this case. Remember all the suicide bombers blowing themselves to bits in Israel when Arafat was still alive?

This region has always been a hotbed of activity. The only thing keeping the region more in check is to pushback HARDER when your hostile opponent pushes you. It is sad that so many innocent people have to die, but negative reinforcement is the ONLY thing that has EVER worked in this region of the world.

When will it stop? Sadly, I am afraid, only when a cataclysm takes place. It'll be a nuclear bomb or something... but it is coming sooner rather than later! You can't blindly believe that all these people one day will just hug one another and say "I AM SORRY. Let's be friends." It will not happen until something truly horrible happens. Mark my words.

And I am not CHEERLEADING for this to happen. I am just merely expressing my opinion of the future.

Dave,

once again you've clearly proven how out of touch with reality you are..

let's start with this: "from a group of people who have never had to live with war or real suffering in their lives

Who are you to assume this about me and other respondants? I'm not going to waste my fingers typing my life's story to you to defend my position on this point. You have no idea where I've lived, what I've survived, and what I've learned in my life through those experiences.

Who are you anyway? If we're going to cast false assumptions around... other than just another mis-informed American listening to liberally biased media and producing opinions based on a long-distance relationship with the TV. Or perhaps you're just a rainbow coallation fag who truly believes that mankind can just "get along".

--

This is not a chest-beating us vs. them argument even though Brett and "rawforreal" obviously enjoy making it one, that's for them to feel good about. The underlying point is still the same and still correct and I will still defend Israel's position.

Did you know that millions of leaflets and a massive tv and radio media campaign was put on by Israel in the hours before the attack warning that residents who sided with Hezbollah and lived in/near/around their areas could possibly get hurt if they didn't get moving out right *now*? Don't get me wrong... I'm sorry that Grandma got caught in the crossfire and there's no question that war IS hell and nobody likes it and innocent people will get hurt, but it's not like they just up and fired on occupied houses of innocent lebanese residents because they felt like it.

What about Israeli casualties and losses throughout the last 50 years of battle with these people up to and including the last two weeks?

Israel can't help it if they're better at war than the terrorists are. That doesn't mean they enjoy it nor does it mean they're a merciless nation of big fat bullies... it just means that they refuse to sit down and take it up the ass after so many black eyes and broken ribs.

If you want to do some more reading and read something REALLY biased towards Israel and Jews but that explains their argument well.... instead of just standing on your side of the fence and yelling bullshit about things of which you have no clue... visit www.jewishworldreview.com sometime.

In fact... read everything there... and learn something new before you open your big mouth again.

It's not worth my effort to re-type what's already been briliantly composed. Thanks.

Can you provide a reference to an online article about the millions of pamphlets? I can't find anything on that topic. I'm very skeptical that Israel would warn anyone before bombing them. According to the New York Times, the majority of the 200+ people killed in Lebanon were civilians, including people riding a bus. Where are these people supposed to go when large portions of the country are being targeted?

Everyone in the world saw what happened in New Orleans last year. Many people there (and in Lebanon) don't have the money to move, no place to go, no transportation to get there. By your reasoning all of those 1000+ people who died in New Orleans got what they deserved, since "they didn't get moving out right *now*?"

I'm sick of people killing people to show that killing people is wrong.

Homer, you know I love you as a friend and a human being. You are a gentle soul with a big heart.

Israel did promise to cease all activities if Lebanon moved troops back to the border (like they were supposed to do all along) AND if they return the captured troops. The Israeli Deputy Prime Minister (Peres) said that Hezbollah has fired 1500 missiles and rockets into Israel from southern Lebanon since it triggered the conflict last week.

Peres even said, "The only enemy they have is an army within an army called Hezbollah. Lebanon is not our enemy. We have nothing to ask from Lebanon, we have much to hope from Lebanon. We hope to live as good neighbors."

Israel is not in an easy place. It's trying to protect it's citizens. How else should they go about protecting their people with Hezbollah around? How many times should they turn the other cheek like Jesus would? If they turned the other cheek every single time, they WILL be wiped off the face of the Earth. That is what Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria, and the Iranian religious zealots are hell bent on doing.

July 18, 2006
Blogger Homer said...

Brett, the new Lebanese government has nothing to do with Hezbollah- they are a militia. Most Lebanese civilians want Hezbollah out of the country- they recently voted out the Syrian-backed government which supported Hezbollah. Israel bombing Lebanon only creates anger towards Israel and support for Hezbollah among the civilian population. I would support the Israeli effort if they were targeting Hezbollah. When Israel blows up infrastructure in Beirut (bridges, intersections, utilities) or people sitting on a bus going to work, how is that helping defeat Hezbollah? I'm so sick of people being killed.

Since I'm supposed to read something other than the "liberal media" (you know, the media that cheers on war) let's try this.

* We, reserve combat officers and soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, who were raised upon the principles of Zionism, sacrifice and giving to the people of Israel and to the State of Israel, who have always served in the front lines, and who were the first to carry out any mission, light or heavy, in order to protect the State of Israel and strengthen it.
* We, combat officers and soldiers who have served the State of Israel for long weeks every year, in spite of the dear cost to our personal lives, have been on reserve duty all over the Occupied Territories, and were issued commands and directives that had nothing to do with the security of our country, and that had the sole purpose of perpetuating our control over the Palestinian people. We, whose eyes have seen the bloody toll this Occupation exacts from both sides.
* We, who sensed how the commands issued to us in the Territories, destroy all the values we had absorbed while growing up in this country.
* We, who understand now that the price of Occupation is the loss of IDF’s human character and the corruption of the entire Israeli society.
* We, who know that the Territories are not Israel, and that all settlements are bound to be evacuated in the end.
* We hereby declare that we shall not continue to fight this War of the Settlements.
* We shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire people.
* We hereby declare that we shall continue serving in the Israel Defense Forces in any mission that serves Israel’s defense.
* The missions of occupation and oppression do not serve this purpose – and we shall take no part in them.

There are atrocities on both sides. If I have to take it only from the mouths of Israelis, well there you go. Terrorism is terrorism regardless of the source. And no...it's never acceptable. Condemning Israel's actions does in no way excuse the actions of extremists.
