Half the blogworld is pissed off at you. Some of your own personal friends are heavily competing for President of The Brett Haters Club. What can you do? Well... Jack E. Shrew still loves me unconditionally.
And so do I! We all have a right to our opinions, right or wrong. Blogging isn't REALLY about the friends we make...it is about putting out there our thoughts and feelings. You have done nothing wrong!
I hate your guts you dirty hussy! j/k. I still love you as always.
Some of your original comments, meant or not, were pretty racist. I think you see that now. So it is no surprise some people were offended. Knowing you, I realize you aren't out to keep blacks as second class citizens out of some misguided belief of superiority. You are just tired of a problem that has taken years to dissolve into chaos. A problem that involves race but isn't soley about race in itself. And as I said before, many on both sides would like it to be about race so they can continue to avoid the real issues underneath.
And until everyone on both sides can quit using the term "racism" as an excuse to get their panties in a wad, we will never get anywhere in this country. You made an attempt to get a point across. Good or bad, I can't fault you for that.
I'm still on your side...and I will continue to read your rants and raves and especially your Pod casts....Son of a Preacher Man cracked my ass up !!! = )
There seems to be a lot of people in blogland who feel the need to point out their criticisms, make entire generalizations on someone based on a single entry, and then rehash...
I still love you, and if you learn from comments (like I do), you have grown...just don't take them TOO seriously.
Brett, while I can't cut you slack on what you said, I feel for you. It's been a rough couple of days for you, and your heart is sore. I don't want you driven away from bloggerdom, and I want to hear from you. You have a right to be here, too.
Brett, you really need to try living somewhere else. I live in a city that is very racially mixed, 45 percent non-white, and there is alot of property crime here, and surprise, 90 percent of the criminals are white. Nobody is blaming the white race though. Maybe we should just have cities with large asian populations, and asian mayors and get rid of them bad white people. Poverty and lack of education causes crime. As a Canadian, I was horrified by a documentary I saw on public schools in poor neighbourhoods in America. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
In retrospect, what I posted was out of anger from personal experiences and from having my belly full of crime down here in the Deep South.
If anything, I expressed myself the way many down here would have. I was a little surprised that some thought I was mean spirited. I guess "calling names" is bigger for some than it is for me. I don't have a thing against "poor people".
I have a thing against people who are committing heinous crimes over and over again. As a victim of this crime, I do have to watch that my anger does not make me turn into a racist.
I do not come from a "Well To Do" background or live in an area that kept me isolated from other ethnic groups. I do live in one of the poorest states in the union where the majority of our population is uneducated and below the poverty line.
So, obviously, I am not sheltered away from crime, poverty or the hard life. I see it all around me all the time. I just want the community to DO BETTER. I am tired of crime touching my life and my friends lives. So, I don't regret my rant one bit. It made me feel better to get that off my chest.
As one who lives in a community that staggered from the burden of Katrina, only to be hit by Hurricane Rita - I understand where your feelings come from.
You gotta a lotta guts, fine fella. I don't think I'm capable of the kind of honesty you dished out over the last couple of days. Having grown up in South Georgia during the '70s, I've seen way worse. And remember...what people think of you is none of your business? OR If a person is convinced that you are an incurable racist, then you can always be resigned that he is an incurable idiot; because you know better. Cheers from Oviedo, FL
Do you actually remember what you wrote. Let me refresh your memory.
"that the black community has ruined the city. They drove the school system into bankruptcy. They chased just about every Fortune 500 company away with the illiterate and unskilled workforce. They are tired of New Orleans being "The Chocolate City" ,"
Also "Landrieu would have stamped a white face on New Orleans. In white hands, the people felt the city would flourish again
I emailed your post to a bunch of my Canadian friends in Canada, and what surprised them most, is the amount of defenders you have.
Oh, don't EVEN get me started on Canadians! Canada is not even a real country anyway. Canadians aren't even real people. They are just American wanna-bees.

Being passionate about something is never a bad thing, we all choose our own battles.
